With the dawn of the Sinhala New Year on the 14th of April 1977 Samantha Konara was born in the hill town of Matale. His parents gave him his full family name Konara Mudiyanselage Samantha Konara
Growing up in the salubrious surroundings of the rich spice gardens of the Matale hills Samantha had his first education at the Bakamuna Central College until he moved back to Matale Vijaya College for his higher education. |

His love for music came naturally to him. Born with a golden voice Samantha started singing the tunes of his favorite singers even in his school days. With his primary education in music and natural talent he joined the Sri Lanka Navy band in 1995. This was his turning point and later brought out his first song " Tharu Pipene Reye" composed by Visharadha Nihal Gamhewa.. This is one of the most popular songs today among the music loving youth. This is popularly telecast in most TV channels and rated highly in the Swarnavahini's programme " Hada Rendi Peya". His other popular songs like "Ninda Ma Gawa" " Sudu Muhune Pini Thewari" have received the likes of his numerous fans.
Samantha works in the peaceful atmosphere, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) in Kandy. His tribute to the noble place of worship is the song " Siri Dalada Himi wada sitina" composed by Nihal gamhaewa again.
